The Bruce Peninsula Art Show was started 43 years ago by Stokes Bay artist Vince Elliott as a venue for local artists to exhibit their works of art. Years later a committee of other interested artists and volunteers picked up the Show and kept it going, leading to today’s committee of seven local artists and volunteers. Those eligible to enter are permanent or summer residents of Grey/Bruce.

The Show is held in Lion’s Head, Ontario, traditionally at the District School on Moore Street, and always on the Civic Holiday weekend.

This year the Show runs from Friday, July 30th, 7 pm to 9 pm with the opening and ‘Meet the Artists’ Friday evening, Saturday, Sunday and holiday Monday, July 31, August 1 & 2 from 11 am to 5 pm, at the District School.

Over the years, the entry fee and commissions from sales moneys have been used in the community, purchasing equipment for the District School and donations to the Hospital.

In the past few years the funds have been given as Bursaries to graduating students continuing in the arts at the post secondary level with amounts varying, depending on the success of the Show, but never less than $200, and $400 per student the last two years.   In the 5 years between 2003 and 2007, a total of $14,300 has been given out in Bursaries.
